‘Ask the Board’: A ClubCISO Panel Event

Thursday 1 February 2018
5:00pm - 9:00pm
The Theatre, Blue Fin Building, London SE1

What does the Board want from its CISO?

Our experienced and opinioned panel guests will talk openly about their personal views and the demands of their business covering:

  • What does the Board want from their CISO?
  • The disconnect between Board, CIO and CISO priorities.
  • The CISO as an enabler of company strategy and innovation now and in the future.

To make meaningful outcomes from this debate, we’re inviting CIOs, CFOs and CISOs to join the debate together which will also enhance the evening’s networking opportunity. Please invite or nominate your colleague to attend alongside you.

Panel guests

Alison FitzGerald

Chief Operations Officer, London City Airport

“The event provides a great opportunity for the industry to identify ways in which issues can be better understood, as well as identify ways of protecting our businesses from new and emerging threats.

In my view, the challenge at the moment for CISOs is to embed their work into established corporate processes and to communicate regularly to board members in non-technical language. I look forward to hearing the thoughts of my fellow panelists and to a lively, thought-provoking debate.”

James Robbins

CIO, formerly at Abellio, Northumbrian Water Group and Drax Group

"I think it’s important that we strike a balance; yes it’s critical that we prevent data theft and cyber crime. As someone who has experience managing critical national infrastructure, I know something about the threat. However, I am also used to being rewarded as a board member for value creation and I wonder why some times information security cannot make life easier for colleagues.

The role of the CISO is critical and we are seeing them more and more in front of boards where there should be more focus on the simplicity of the solution than the risk.

I am looking forward to meeting CISOs who are passionate about their field and also their business."

Stefan Beavis

CIO, formerly at Penguin Random House

"It’s really important that the CISO and CIO are kept separate in order for Information Security to be recognised more broadly within organisations and not just as an ‘IT issue’. It’s important that the CISO has the gravitas to advise the C-Suite whilst also being able to work at an operational level."
