Announcement: New ClubCISO Chair appointed
New Chair appointment
ClubCISO, the largest international community of in-role Chief Information Security Officers and security leaders today announced that it is appointing a new Chair. Erhan Temurkan, Director of Security and Technology at Fleet Mortgages, will work with a newly appointed Advisory Board to manage the Community’s direction as the industry contends with a range of once-in-a-generation technology, economic, geopolitical and people-related challenges.
As an active participant of the ClubCISO community to date, many members will recognise the energetic and pragmatic approach Erhan will bring to this leadership role. He will build on ClubCISO’s success in developing security culture and supporting professional development and wellbeing, whilst also ensuring the membership community’s voice is heard around fast-moving issues such as AI and regulation.
Erhan Temurkan – Director of Security and Technology, Fleet Mortgages
Many of you will recognise me from our various events over the years. It was a pleasure seeing so many familiar faces at our recent Leaders Exchange event at InfoSec 2024. The discussions there were truly invigorating: we delved into the implications of emerging technologies and debated and demystified the real impact AI was having on our sector.
These discussions underscore the unique value our community provides. We have the collective expertise and the platform to shape media conversations, influence policy discussions, and drive industry change. ClubCISO’s growth over the past few years has been remarkable – together, we now stand at 750 esteemed members and continue to see significant growth in new members as our collective ambition and advocacy grows too. Our membership has become increasingly global and continues to enrich our collective insight and experience.
As the new Chair of ClubCISO, my vision is to build on our successes and leverage our platform to foster innovative thinking and real change. We will continue to champion professionals across our industry, prioritising the support and development of our members. The CISO role is highly demanding, and our community will always be a pillar of support through various wellness, professional, and personal activities.
We have been proactive in exploring well-being and stress management through a series of webinars and workshops. Preventing stress and helping you all in creating collaborative and productive cultures are at the forefront of these efforts. So too is ensuring that the community remains a place where peer support and mentorship is available to all. Our mentorship schemes, which pair CISOs looking to fast-track their careers or learn new skills, are a testament to our commitment to professional development.
I, myself, am deeply grateful for the mentorship I’ve had from the likes Dr Jess Barker and Paul Watts over the years.
As we navigate an era of profound technological and political change, it is crucial for us to embed ourselves as integral, productive parts of our organisations. While advancing security culture and organisational resilience remains a priority, we must also be seen as enablers of innovation and evolve into revenue-generating leaders. I’m eager to learn from the community’s experiences here in particular.
The much-discussed workforce gap also presents an opportunity for us. The evolution of the CISO role means we come from, and will continue to draw from, diverse professional and educational backgrounds. Whether it’s behavioural science, communications, or risk management, the breadth of experience available to us today is vast. Integrating more than just technical expertise is essential, and we must enable diverse talent to enter and thrive in our industry.
I’m genuinely excited for this new chapter in ClubCISO’s journey. Our community has the potential to lead by example, showcasing how diversity and innovation can drive success in information security. Alongside the new advisory board, we will continue to support each other, share knowledge, and push the boundaries of what is possible in our field.
As we move forward, I encourage you all to share your thoughts and ideas. Together, we can build the community we need—one that not only adapts to change but also drives it. Your input is invaluable, and I look forward to collaborating with you all to shape the future of our industry.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication. Let’s make the most of this exciting journey ahead.
